Is it hazardous?

If it’s not suitable for landfill or recycling, chances are it’s hazardous. The following list of items is defined as hazardous waste under the BC Environmental Management Act.

  • Miscellaneous products considered to be dangerous to health or the environment, including unprepared Asbestos, lead paint, and Polychlorinated biphenyl, (PCBs).

  • Contaminated soil, with high concentrations of chemicals, pesticides, lead and other metals

  • Gases, for example, propane either compressed, refrigerated, liquefied, or dissolved

  • Flammable and combustible liquids, like gasoline.

  • Flammable solids, like unused matches or oily rags that are liable to spontaneously combust, or emit flammable gases when in contact with water.

  • Oxidizing agents and organic peroxides, such as ammonium nitrate.

  • Toxic and infectious substances, such as poison.

  • Corrosive substances like Sulphuric acid.

How do you dispose of hazardous and chemical waste?
